Session 1: Defining Campus Best Practices for a Safe and Supportive Environment
October 3, 2024 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Kick off the series by exploring the foundational elements of successful Behavioral Intervention Teams. This session will provide practical tools for proactively identifying and addressing behavioral concerns, fostering a safer and more inclusive campus environment.
Session 2: Positioning Your BIT Program as a Responsive Resource
October 17, 2024 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Building on the first session, this presentation delves into the critical processes of case intake, triage, and communication. Participants will learn how to effectively manage escalating incidents and develop internal toolkits tailored to their campus needs.
Session 3: Bias and Risk Perception Factors in Threat Case Management
October 31, 2024 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
This advanced session examines how team dynamics and bias can influence threat management. Through case studies and role-playing, attendees will discover techniques to mitigate these challenges, improving their team’s effectiveness in high-stakes situations.
Session 4: Cells and Circles: Strategic Communication in Threat Management
November 14, 2024 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
In the final session, participants will learn how to manage internal and external communications during significant events. This session focuses on reducing fear, managing persons of concern, and reinforcing the BIT’s role as a key resource during campus-wide incidents.
Presented by Monique Mendoza
Monique Mendoza, PhD, (she/her) is a licensed psychologist who supports high-risk settings and provides training to redefine workplace violence prevention. She offers consulting services to help campuses prioritize well-being through inclusive services that inspire confidence and resilience while rejecting scare tactics. Dr. Mendoza received her Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science from the University of California Irvine and her Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri.
