This resource provides a comprehensive overview of the Healthy Minds Study (HMS) conducted at fourteen California Community Colleges (CCCs) in Spring 2022, highlighting the interconnectedness of student mental health and basic needs such as financial security, food security, and social connections. The findings underscore the need for coordinated and collaborative efforts to support student well-being. Colleges can use this resource to understand the importance of addressing basic needs insecurities through a student-centered approach, as outlined in the Social Determinants of Educational Success framework. By implementing this framework alongside Guided Pathways, colleges are encouraged to remove systemic obstacles and provide holistic support, including mental health services, food, and housing assistance. The resource also outlines how institutions can leverage legislative funding to create an integrated support system that aligns basic needs services with student health centers, promoting a more comprehensive approach to student success.
